All administrative processes associated with Feenstra's service are controlled from the back office application SMS that has been developed by Feenstra itself. This application is one of the company's core systems and has been developed in-house over the past 20 years.
The system takes care of the registration of malfunctions and requests for maintenance, including periodic maintenance visits. It supports the planner in putting together an efficient route for the technicians. And it facilitates the invoicing of work carried out. The information in the SMS application is linked to various other systems within Feenstra, such as the CRM system and the financial administration, but also the webshop and mijnfeenstra.nl where customers have access to maintenance. And last but not least, the iPad app that the technicians use every visit for their on-site maintenance is directly linked to the SMS application.

The SMS application consists of a combination of Oracle databases and application servers. Feenstra's services make it necessary for this environment to be available 24/7. The existing design of these components did not provide proper support for this requirement in terms of continuity. Also, the processes surrounding monitoring and management were not set up to respond adequately to any system disruptions.
